Welcome to the site Taylor. You'll learn lots from these knowledgeable folks.
Have you got any palms or cycads yet? If so, how about posting some pics.

Steve, your seed's smiling! (Pac Man?)
Did you soak them?
Asking because they look fairly dry.

Will look forward to pics of the next bit of movement.

Ahhh... nice to find a man easy to buy for !!
I can just see Steve now...digging through the brazil/ nuts on the coffee table looking for an elusive seed to plant 😆

DON, nice to see you again...sorry about your bamboo.

Barb

Hi Barb!
I do most of the food shopping here, I'm always checking the coconuts, looking for cactus pads in the produce section, and whatever other seeds I can find 😆 😆

Most of the Cycas seeds I buy average between $1 - 5$ each, so I do whatever I can to improve the odds. Once they are ready, they will soak for a day or two, and then go into a Perlite medium with bottom heat. This keeps the top half of the seed dry, ( where the radicle emerges)

This keeps mold/fungus at a minimum, also, if you pull a seed out and the bottom half is darker in color, then the moisture level is right where it should be.

Not too sure how cold hardy they are, they do seem to survive the Australian brush fires, and there are reports of them growing in swampy areas.
I would think they would be similar in hardiness with the Macrozamias ? That is just a guess, if I get some growing we'll see how sensitive they are.

looking for cactus pads in the produce section

so funny! I bet you serve lots of pineapple and coconut at your dinner table! 😆
Looks like PEACHES in your planting tray.
Nice color on those seeds.

Here we are a few days later with the radicle just starting to form 8)
( these are being held at 25C during the day, and then room temp at night )

Steve
They're moving very quickly.
From "the smile" to the radicle in less than a week. 😯
Nice.

Thanks Barb, I potted that one up last night. and quite fast considering I just received these several weeks ago.
( Thanks to Ortanique for fresh and properly stored seed! http://ortanique.com )

Some of the others are not too far behind, The seeds with the "R" on them are Cycas revoluta, these may be a bit more common, but are still fun to grow 8)

Looks like Ortanique has a good niche in the seed business.
Bet they'd like to hear your testimonial on how fast they popped! 😀

There's nothing common about a revoluta (to this Canadian anyway).

Just thought I would include that for anyone else who wants to try this Cycad 8)

The revoluta is still common at the box stores here. However, with the asian scale taking it's toll, who knows for how long?

Every walmart in town has them by the truckload for about $6 -10 depending on size...

Steve we don't have a big problem with asian scale here although I do spray my cycads about twice a month with oil...

Laaz, our Walmart has...ah, lemmesee....african violets, cactus, the odd braided umbrella tree, a few bromeliads.
Nothing exciting made it this far north.
