Nice looking seeds from RPS

soaking in warm water, debaoensis at left, panzhi (right) with rostrata in smaller bowl.

Found an old electric warming tray in basement.
Sure pays to never throw stuff out. 😉

Lo Med + Hi settings.
Placed an old cookie sheet on top to diffuse Lo heat more evenly.
Added a plastic dome.

Barb,
Best of luck with them!
And thanks for the photos, first time I've ever seen what Cycas debaoensis seed looks like 😀

Thanks for the cycad germination links.
Tom Broome's was very informative, as was your instruction.

The following link from Tom Broome is must-have info for cycad germination.
I didn't understand seed ripening facts previously.
Still didn't cut one open, I'm just hoping they're ripe.
http://www.plantapalm.com/Vce/horticulture/seeds.htm

Your cycad germination pics also helped me understand the pointy end goes down into the perlite when planting near-horizontally. I would've planted it the other way 😕

I checked my warming tray this morning, all seems fine. 😀

Time for everyone to laugh their socks off...

Quick trip into town today for fence wire, look what else I bought: 😀

I know, I know 😕 Made in China, but it went together easily with just an Allen wrench.

You're all still rolling on the floor laughing !!!
I'll have to strap styrofoam cups together to keep them from falling over.
Hope this baby can hold 50 pounds of perlite and soil, etc.

You can get up off the floor now. 😆

That will work if it can hold the weight. 😆

Barb, I've been thinking about something like this inside for seedlings, let us know how it works out !
( and how many cups it can hold.... 😀

Is that a CIDP frond waving in the background?

Yup that's the CIDP, Steve, doing a lot better now after its near break from the wind two years ago.

Brought the mini GH inside last night before dusk.
With 2 strings of Christmas lights overnite, it's only 20C 68F on top shelf this a.m. 😕
Too cool for sprouting anything.
I've got to increase the heat, worried about these $$$$ seeds.

So far I've got fourteen 16 oz cups in there, looks like it could hold 72 on 2 shelves.
A third shelf (an old plastic fridge divider) could be added to hold more than 100.
But I expect weight to be iffy.

Because there's one stair involved between where it sits outside daytime and indoors at night, have to unload the thing, move it, and reload the pots/cups. Good make work project 😕

Will report inside temps after it spends all day in full sun.

Not much to see yet, but it's been only 12 DAYS! 😀

Y.rostrata, 6 of 14 are showing a bit of green coming:

C.debaoensis, only 1 of 10 showing a crack today:

Obviously very fresh seed from RPS!

If you ever find a food warming tray at a garage sale (with Lo Med Hi settings), grab it.
If you don't want it, I'll buy it from you.
Faster (warmer) than the heat mat.

OK, I'll admit it 😳
I planted the bloody things upside down apparently.

Will update progress.

These are moving along, with one C. panzhi off and running.
Seeds have just been misted with warm water; not kept this damp otherwise.

I'll say it again: THESE SEEDS FROM RPS ARE FRESH, FRESH, FRESH...12 days from receipt!
