I've heard that doubles, and even triples are somewhat common with these. Still sort of cool to see 8)

Very common with butia. I have some that have three seedlings out of the seed

I actually had better luck with Butia seed germination rate by cracking the butia seed open and taking the two - three "seeds" and germinating those.

Very cool pic, Steve.
Does the stronger "root" become dominant, with the other one dying?
Or do both send up shoots eventually?

I don't know anything about Butia, but would this be a trait with clumping palms?

Barb, These seeds can contain up to 3 distinct embryos, ( each one will form a separate plant ) As soon as the seed is spent , they can be potted up individually.

You are right about dominant twins, when one embryo throws twins, usually only one survives.

BTW ~ Had just about figured out how to master decent photos with my camera, and it quit 😐 ( actually I think I just wore it out 😆 .......... so it is off to the store today to find another one on sale...lol

How cool, didn't know that.

You took some great pix with that camera.
Enjoy searching for a new one.
And reading yet another 50-page instruction booklet 😉

My search for a new camera basically involved me walking in and asking for the cheapest one 😀
Ended up with a 7.1 MP Kodak, now to see if I can figure this one out..........

So far, so good. Just testing it out with a couple photos.

I've been able to pick up about half the branches the fell in the storm, here's the pile so far......

In the GH,

From the pics, looks like you got a good one.
7.1 is great; mine's only 6.0.

The only thing missing from that burn pile is the table and chairs for the hot dog roast.

Outstanding shot of your GH interior...your plants look better than ever.
Bet the sunshine is welcome after what you folks have been through.

With the demand driving the price down, MP doesn't really mean a whole lot now, this is an inexpensive one lacking in some features, but if it last longer than 6 months, I'll be happy 😆

I am really glad they allow open burning here.......

Here is that Butia sprouting,

Nothing whatsoever wrong with your close-up shots!

That little guy MUST be a germination speed record 😯
