Hi Jesse,
I purchased these seeds........
Pseudopanax crassifolius
Richea dracophylla
Richea pandanifolia
Schefflera rhododendrifolia (= S. impressa)
Vernonia volkameriaefolia
I really only wanted the Schefflera rhododendrifolia but needed to get the order up to 30 EUROs.

Cameron
Those numbers are off the web-I have seen regular old Aloe Vera take temps well below freezing.
Maybe you were referring to Aloe polyphylla (Spiral aloe) -this one is super hardy!
And absolutely beautiful-but rare.

Hi Jesse,
"You trying the schefflera outside?"
some day I'll test those Schefflera outside...........they are suppose to be one of the hardiest......perhaps a zone 7b plant?

Despite Dylan's (Jubaea) advice last year to wait for a first or second leaf to put them into the 14-inch pots...I will risk some of them rotting.
Just can't see having to do this twice within a year.
But it is definitely harder to get seeds warm when it's sitting up 14" above a warm concrete floor.
Ta da....drumroll.
All the seeds are now on soil.

Believe it or not...I ran out of 14" Stuewe pots 😐
Then I remembered I used a bunch last Fall to pot up 2012 seedlings.
Used up all 100 14-inch pots! 😯
It's wonderful to have an unfinished basement (concrete floor) to muck around in during the winter.
And there was lots of muck!
Went through one and a half BALES of potting soil too! Whew.
OK, now G R O W !!!!! 😆 😆

Tim,
Numerous ones, no Jubaea this year (only have 3 started from last year) 😆

the only seeds I got germ'n now is Yuzu citrus................non yet............I think they were dead upon arrival. 😥
so I then planted some Y. flaccida x baccata in there to see if baccata genes show......baccata pollen from Aaron! 8)
sorry for the top of the fridge photo..........looks like I need to do some dusting.

Whew...could've been MY place 😆 😆
Maybe the Yuzu could use the heat from a germinating mat?
I'm using one under the Copernicia hospita palm seeds, but wish I could ramp the temp up...feels too cool for palm seeds.

Wow, that's a lot of work, Barb! Keep us posted on the progress 😆
Tim, from my experience, Citrus seeds don't need too much heat to germinate. The problem seems to be viability and/or mold on the seeds.

the Yuzu seeds arrived very dry looking..........they aren't suppose to dry out. 😥 I hope one will pop but it's been 6-7 weeks already with no sign of life. 😥

Tim, you should contact Ned in SC on the HPS board for some Yuzu seeds. He shipped some to me, and even with the customs delays there was still a great germination ratio!

Tim, I've also been doing some more research on A. ecklonis recently. It seems as if some of the hardier grass Aloes actually die back during the winter, and regrow during the spring. So maybe the foliage damage is just superficial!
<img src="http://weathersticker.wunderground.com/weathersticker/big2_both_cond/language/www/global/stations/71601.gif" alt="Click for Shearwater, Nova Scotia Forecast" border="0" height="60" width="468" />
Hi Cameron,
OK......nice research.........perhaps A. ecklonis is a 'perennial'........I grew A. striatula and it regrew from the roots and was rather fast growing..........ecklonis has better looking foliage than striatula.
