Cycas debaoensis 2 plants in trouble.

I started these from seed and don't want to lose them.
Because of scale (and other critters), gave everything a top-dressing of coffee grounds.

After approx 6 mos, may have lost one.
Maybe coffee grounds raised the level too high over the caudex.
And/or pH was so drastically affected...

I remember Tom Broome's advice to "never give up on a cycad", so there's hope?

So...carefully removed all soil, this one had mushy roots from overwatering.
Half the roots were broken, so cut those off keeping what appeared healthy.

The other one looks better, but in case coffee grounds are too high, repotted that too.

Used this soil (palm aggregate mix is too "deserty"), but it looks like it has too much peat, so added extra extra perlite for faster drainage.

Barb, it sounds to me like you have done everything correctly. The only thing I would recommend now would be a root drench with an all-purpose fungicide. Daconil is best if you can find it. Home Depot still carries it here.
