Hello any growers out there interested in growing some mule palms. I will have 1400 liners next june, and 10,000 every year after that. Can deal in bare root seedlings as well. I will be moving to friday harbor, san juan island, we will be planting 200 of them there. Please contact me at eriktampabay@yahoo.com

Your xButiagrus will have difficult time growing in the San Juan Islands. Our PNW climate will be tough on them.

Cheers, Barrie.

Thanks Dean,

Barrie, I realize that it may be difficult to do, thats why I have joined these forums to maybe get some pointers as I am new to all of this. I never even paid attention to palm trees until 3 years ago. Im hoping out of 200 trees we can get some kind of success rate. We will be building covers for them as well in case of any long freezes. Any pointers on building something for palm protection?

Erik, best of luck with the xButiagrus... Are these seed grown or TC? Hopefully they are seed grown so that there is a good chance of getting some that are better in the cold (i.e. with the Butia hardiness!)

And off question; is anyone in the PNW growing Butia x Jubea? I bet they would do great! Oh the palms I would try if I lived on Salt Spring!
