Despite the low winter temps, your late winter/early spring warmth created a shorter winter for them.
They'll really take off this year if they're already pushing leaves THAT size!!!!

Laughing that your new "fence cover" is too small for this winter.

My clear covers were up for 2 days but have come in useful
in a variety of applications from hail protection/to moderating
the cool temps around the Castors.

I also used them to cover the big cactus flowers so the rain
could not destroy them,can you see the little flowers????

Glad I found some use for them,it did seem like a waste at the time-
but the nice weather softened the blow 😀

Yup those cactus flowers were up early in the season!

Not talking about the plastic..just the fence panels.

I recall you said those were "cattle panels" ... that heavy wire is what I'm interested in to protect the my 2 Washies/3 y.rostrata for their second winter.

I'm not using that stooooooopid plastic-covered fencing again.

You may want to try something thinner so you can bend it,
I like the plastic/rubber?coated fencing because I can put some
insulation between layers so it can't work it's way loose in the wind.

Yeah, yours was the type I was trying to find...nobody had it here 😐
So I ended up with this crap:

But the big heavy wire you have now...the cattle panel fencing would sure stand up well to snowload.
I could bend it with the tractor bucket...presto, done.

How tall do you think you could do a cattle panel fence (bent into GH shape like you have for the cactus garden out front)?
I'm guessing 10 feet at the peak before it wouldn't be stable any more?

Looking at your Washies now, it's hard to believe they were inside those little cages 😆 😆

maybe a total of 12-16 leaves by mid November?????

I think it is opening #4 now,they each had one leaf on them so,
it will be easy for me to count 😀 ...the size of the palm matters....
(establishment time etc)look at Bills,they probably grow 10 leaves
waiting to be uncovered and 20 more once they are 😀

I think the panels would end up 3' wide with 10' of height.....

the main issue is with the wind.

I'll be happy with 3 leaves all summer with my overwintered Washies.
Then next year...look out! 😀
