Had some time today so I removed the protection on a few of my palms.
Windmill is protected by a foam box with xmas lights on a thermocube. It looks perfect and put on a few fronds over the winter.
Needle and minor just had a plastic tarp over them and they braved the cold on their own. They look good too.
Everything looks great. Where are you??

Hey Ryan, your palms look great! I will take cues from you, and wait next year.
For FIVE WEEKS now, my Sabal minor, Chamaerops cerifera and my Trachycarpus fortuneii have been uncovered!!
My chammy looks as good as the day it was uncovered, but my Trachy and Sabal are windburned from the rollercoaster temperatures and precip.
I think my worst off is my Trachy. If only I waited about as long as you, oh well I am sure mine will pull through!
My Pindo and Washingtonia filifera got uncovered Yesterday? Yeah. On Saturday, I will uncover the Blue Hesper and the Bananas.
Cheers!

canadianplant,
Yeah its a great little microclimate in that spot. Yes that is the needle on the right.
seedscanada,
I learnt my lesson. Last year with the warm winter and spring I decided to uncover my plants at the beginning of March only have a heavy frost come in April and damage some of my weaker plants like my washingtonia. This year I waited and kept an eye on the forecast just to be safe.
Hey, Ryan, Niagara-on-the-Lake is my favorite place in Ontario. I was there last time on November 2012. Enjoyed the Monkey Tree that is still growing surprisingly! And many other beautiful plants easy to find among the town neighborhoods. The town is must visit for everyone planing the Niagara falls honeymoon 😀

Hi Igor
Yeah its a pretty little town and a great escape from the circus that is Niagara Falls. Glad you enjoyed your visit.
Palms look great. You did a nice job with the protection.

Sidpook, in defense of Niagara North... we are 7a and so are you (Beamsville to NOTL). We have equally cold maximum colds as a 7a Jersey. Our cold periods may be sustained longer than yours. so not so collllld.

Good looking specimens, Ryan, congrats on the protection.
That's a whack of Christmas lights under that Trachy. 😯
No wonder it grew fronds over the winter. 😀
I've always heard that the Niagara region is as "winter warm" as Vancouver.
Definitely enviable.
Thanks for the pics.

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.
Thanks Barb. I wish we were as warm as Vancouver in the winter 🙂 The escarpment does provide us with quite a bit of protection though.
