This topic came up on the UK Oasis board and I thought it maybe of interest to us here. Initailly thought to be Trachycarpus takil (and still so in many circles), Trachycarpus fortunei 'Nainital' is a distinct form of Trachycarpus. Originally many thousands of these 'Nainital' seeds where sold and distibuted as T. takil which adds to the confusion. True T. takil is still very rare in cultivation and it may be some time before they are available. So if you think you have a takil, it's more than likely 'Nainital'

Here's a British web-page that details this 'Nainital' form (bottom half of page)

Cheers, Barrie.
