I went to home depot to check if they had palms and the had some. I look at the tag and rated not zone 6 or 7 but 5a. I look on some hardy palm list on the internet and the same thing most sites tell me 5a. I look at polarpalms and they survived -27C or -31C. Is this really true?
Yuccaman ask them if they come with a one year guarantee. I would think that these would be run of the mill Trachy`s and you would definitely have to protect them anything under -15 c 4.5 f to have any foliage left the next spring. They may survive below these temps but the tree will be playing catch up every year to grow new fronds. How big are these trees?

There are no trunking palms that will survive in zone 5 unless you are willing to give it the full meal deal each Winter. You would have to build a fricken structure around it to keep the extreme cold from freeze drying it. Don't believe everything you read. I would definately ask if it is guaranteed for a year. Cheers, Joe

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

It is a guaranteed year palm. all the palms at that place has been guaranteed first time built that place in bellville. I do build a structure for my trunk spanish dagger becuase cold will kill it fast same thing for the palm. I got more bad luck the new guy gary new guy at the nursery said a yucca wont even trunk here. even in 6a frost will kill it. and for the palm he said for 5a dont even belive it. maybe 5a with structure with heated protection. We are not really zone 5b we are more 6a. Needle palm is not rated for 6a just 6b he said. desert zone your yuccas trunk because you are much warmer winter than we are.LPN on a diffrent forum told me. That the stuff im reading they only want my money = cant grow here. but with heated protection. They never protect im bulgaria beacause warmer climate.Idaho can have lots of chinook winds that warms up to 20C. We Have bad a bad climate because of to many huge storms that kill my stuff. One structure I had got wind damage. Almost destroyed. Tree sizes are 6 metres high and they have trunks and they are very nice and healthy. Not buying any palms. Im not going to grow a palm because The wind will blow away the protection if We had 100 mph wind storms like before. Just getting yuccas.
