Hi All, my unsheltered Trachy succumbed to its fungal issue and sadly I had to dig it up. Many spears pulled from the center were mushy and smelly, the rest of the tree's petioles were going black. Hopefully its not a matter of time before the other Trachy heads in the same direction, I'm still praying on that one! I doubt I'll plant another one, as we're probably selling the house in the next few months anyway. 🙁 SO that's my update folks!

You could try cutting the top off and it may grow back.

Heidi,
that's too bad. I'm really surprised. Not that I haven't killed a few Trachy over the years, but still I thought yours would be fine.
I think there is individual variation; that may have just been a weaker one.
So, will you dig up plants to move with you or leave them for the next owner? --Erik

Darn it, Heidi.
Sorry it's lost, I know how much you enjoyed it in your back yard.

A new home provides many more gardening opportunities.
You'll do a super job there and likely have more luck...and better drainage 😀

Good luck, kiddo, keep in touch please.

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.

Thanks All!

Wollemi25 thanks for the link....I remember Jim doing this and it was successful. I thought of doing the same but just dug it up and thought to heck with it.

Erik and Barb, thanks for the wishes... yes I'll leave the other Trachy and plants for the next owners to care for. I will leave the shelter here for them if they want (they might not even care to go the lengths for all I know). Twas a fun learning experience and I look forward to another tropical landscape somewhere else! Will definitely keep in touch, I really appreciate everyone's wonderful advice, not to mention camaraderie! 😀 Don't get me wrong, I'm not leaving but my life is changing a bit here in the next few months so I won't be on as much. Like I said I'll pop on once in a while to check if ya'll are behaving yourselves! ha ha 😉

Sorry to hear about that Heidi. It s very disheartening esp. after you work so hard to keep them alive. Almost like losing a pet! 😥

Thanks Mike, it really is like losing a family member isn't it! These are my babies, I put so much work into them but it's all learning experiences too and for my next home I will know what more to do from the beginning and what not to do. New adventures ahead!
