Hello, I am thinking about putting out a couple large palms. I have a couple tall queens in pots that have tolerated the indoors for the winter but are starting to look ragged. Two mexican fan palms. One has just the newest emerging spear left and one has 2 new coming. I had read somewhere these are good to -10but that doesnt mean they like it. Are they better off with the benefit of the bright outdoor light or the warmth of the house for a while longer. The forcast suggests it may go to - 1 or -2 the next couple nights but warming up nicely during the day. If these were yours...what would you do?

I have a 7' queen palm that is still inside. Its too heavy to move in and out. I have several 2-6' Mex Fan Palm and they are outside and doing very well. My lows have fluctuated between 25F and 45F at night. They do not however like to have frozen roots in the pots so be careful of that. I also have a couple of pygmy date palms outside right now and they too are doing well. Good luck.

You should put them in the shade till they acclimatise when warmer. I have learned the hard way that they need time to get used to the outside for a about three weeks in a semi shaded area. Just my two cents.
