My Chamerops and Butia were shipped last night. It cost $175 to ship 2 - 15 gal palms complete with soil and pot via Greyhound. The Chamerops barely made the 100 lb maximum.

I have been antsy waiting for them to be shipped for the last 3 or 4 weeks. Right now I can hardly wait for them to arrive. It should take 2 days +. The plus being delays due to the driver being unable to lift them to put them in the trailer.

Allen good to see your getting your palms. Where did you order them from? Good idea to have them shipped in their pots even if it costs a little more.

They are coming from Tropi-Cole Trading which is just outside of Victoria.

It took a while to find a reasonable priced shipper and for Tropi-Cole to find large enough shipping containers.

Now just a few days wait.

Here's someone's pics with brahea etc purchases from Tropi Cole.
Looks like a great place to buy great-sized stuff, although I couldn't find their web site 😕

Thanks jenf, I got stock exchange links when I searched the first time.
Kinda appropriate considering what some of us pay for these palms! 😆

They are here. BUTTTT- I can't get them until tomorrow AM.

Someone screwed up and didn't log the parcels in. When I phoned trying to find them, the agent didn't want to go look because there was no record of them. When I explained about the contents, size and weight, she changed her mind and went and confirmed that they were just in the door on a pallet.

Guess where I will be at 9 AM tomorrow.

I picked them up and posted some pics under the photos section.

The Chamaerops doesn't look impressive because it has recovered from defoliation. Larry and I discussed this and I bought it because it is much easier to ship and to protect in winter. It has 5 trunks between 6" and 12" tall.

The stuccoer was here Saturday to do the front of the house so that I could plant the palms. He was almost finished when it started to rain and he had to shut down. He will do the bottom 2' today or tomorrow if it will stop raining.

Now for the soil in the palm bed. I plan to go down about 3 feet. and remove about 60% of the 'granular clay', which retains it's consistency even when wet, with 2/3 sand and 1/3 compost/manure. This should provide and fertile well drained soil. I would appreciate any suggestions or comments.

I plan to put 3" styrofoam around the palm bed from the surface down 2'. The bed will be about 6" above the surrounding soil level and surrounded by decorative stone work. I plan to plant the two palms 4' on centre from the wall of the house. My space is limited and I have only a 6' to 8' wide space in front of the house. Again I would appreciate any comments or suggestions.
