Barrie,
The palm was cut down for travel purpose. My father in law cut all but one stem so he could fit it in a box. The middle spear is still there. The mold is actually sand. I have planted it to see if it grows. If it dies then it was the thought that counted.
I will look up the Thrinax floridana. thank you very much.
Here are a couple more pics.
Welcome to the forum Arctic Palm. 🙂
Thank you Admin!!!
Welcome arctic palm I think your palm in the pic is a needle palm. If you look closely you can see the needles sticking straight up from around the trunk. Whatch yourself I have used a few bandaids on my fingers with these.

Okanagan desert-palms,
I am not sure what it is. My father in-law just dug it up and took it home with him. He is from Nanimo.
With those needles sticking up like that I would have to say it is a needle palm.I have three of these myself. Look up needle palm or rhapidophyllum hystrix. I think you will see it is the same palm as you have.

I kinda wish he didn't cut off so many fans. It makes it hard to tell. I just hope it survives.

There have been a few votes for needle palm. I should take a better pic of the base and post it. I will later today.
Thanks
