I have had my trachys for 7 years. They were a good 7 ft tall. This winter did them in. Unwrapped in April to a lot of mold. Cut off dead fronds and sprayed a copper fungicide. Spears seemed solid. Just out today and all the spears pulled out. SO FRUSTRATING. guess I did not do a good enough job protecting. Not sure I want to replace them to just go through this again. Here is a picture of the yard in the end of September and one mid November with the protection in place.
Any suggestions would be helpful, I am ready to throw in the towel. Mark

Unfortunately, losses like this are part of the hobby:/ Don't give up, bro! My butia's spear pulled after a very unseasonable and extremely rare hard freeze in early April, my Sabal palmetto is drying up from the drought, despite frequent irrigation, and the wind has literally shredded one of my Trachies. I bought all these palms for around $200 a piece. The only palms I have that are actually doing well are the Washingtonia robustas, which I bought for $9 a piece...it's frustrating, I know, but you have to persevere, and the results will be very rewarding! 🙂

Dont give up 🙂 If those trachies by the pool are in ground ok.. if there is concrete below the soil thats no place for them, its like you planted them in a concrete pot.
Good protection, mild winter and you're ok.
