Hello, I haven't been around for quite awhile. Work picked up and I am finishing up my associates degree so I haven't had much chance to stop by. My Pygmy Date Palm is in some pretty bad shape, it didn't like the indoors too well. I have it outside now that temps aren't going below the mid 40's at night now, hopefully that will help. Is there a way to tell for sure if its too late for anything to help?

PS: I hope everyones palms are doing well!

PDP--and most other palms--don't like the dry heat of residences in winter. Misting is good.
I've lost one, and my latest doesn't look good either.

I find by the time PDP look like there's something wrong, it's often too late.

Mine's outside on the deck under the roof, but nighttime chill might finish it off.

Good luck with yours.
Hope others here have some advice.

I am new to PDP--first was bought last year this time.
I left it outside too long, and it got to 26 F in October. I brought it on. Spear pull; treated with peroxide.
Indoors, it had decent light: west facing window plus a fluorescent gro-light (shared with several plants so not close).
It put up new spears eventually. It is outdoors now and growing great.
I've given it some miracle grow fertilizer and some extra potassium and magnesium (epsom salts).

So, to answer your question, look for new spears coming up. Give it heat and light. --Erik

Mine did fine outside in cooler temps, even as low as -2C ( it was a mistake and my yard is warmer then where the temps are taken). IT took 2 or 3 weeks with cooler night temps ( around 2c - 5C), and didnt seem to mind, even after repotting it. I wouldnt reccomend anything below 5C IMO.

Indoors they can take some low light, but need soem sort of brightish room, or sunlight to grow. IT was near the furnace and did quite well too. Mabey you over watered it?,
