I'm more in line with Kris.....not much growth.

Looks good Jim. Everything's really moving. The plants needed it after winter '10-'11 and summer '11. Hell we needed it. I hope we're in a decent weather pattern for awhile.

Tim, those few inches may as well be miles with a Sabal! The Lou was a transplant and the Brazoria was a new planting as well.

I'll get a trachy pic tomorrow, I haven't officially kept track but I bet it's on # 4.

And...with highs in the 80s all week growth is pretty explosive with Trachys.

Over 500 GDD in March really helps pop-start stuff out of winter!

only 300 and something in April and yet April avg was 65/42 and March 64/43....

same mean temp of 53F yet the GDD sets them apart.

I would say this ones on spear 3 and you can see # 4 and 5 down in the crown.[/img]

Picture from 4-18-12,about a 1/2' of growth.

All that nasty damage was down in the(upper)trunk area March 5th for the 5F(airport)/12F(in town) snow event.

It blasted out just in time to keep the spear from being severed.

Frond #3 on one trachy, frond #2 on the other for me.

The Trachy you dug for me is pushing up its first spear nicely; the two Waggies I dug and potted in August are moving very, very slowly.
The C. radicalis I dug and potted then are doing best of the palms but still on their first leaf of Spring.

This one was the smallest(center)spear when I uncovered it in early March.

If you look close at the purdy new Waggie leaf(facing you)you can see the burn-halfway down- on the
petiole that was inside the trunk with the other 2 leaves that are damaged-

the next leaf was clipped halfway accross by the cold and then there is also a" little" damage to the tip of the next leaf.

Damage is almost identical on this Fortunei.

Jim those look great. Your plants are always spot-on.
Erik it's good to hear everyone is happy in their pots. Yea the Sabal Lou is moving like it never got disturbed, it'll have a new frond unfurled soon. I kind of wondered if it would flower this year? How old would you say this plant is?
On a sad note I saw that the med fans in Wagoner had been replaced by annuals. Survive the coldest min temp winter in years, then the hottest summer on record only to be tossed like that. Maybe they went to the owners home?

Oh, no! I had a drive-through dinner at the KFC there a couple of weeks ago to check on them. Two dead, but two looking great. I hope someone took the two healthy ones.
