I pulled the bananas from the basement and stuck them in the ground as they were starting to look mighty unhappy down there. I then covered them with a poly temp to facilitate warm days and help prevent frosts from hurting them. Daytime temps have been going to 95-100 in their poly tent and soil temps are up near 60. Hopefully this can help root them in and get them going for me.
Orinoco tent.
Basjoo tent.
My ensete maurelii are still in the basement and I will get them out in a week or two -- once all frost threats are past. Last frost date here is April 26 -- we're getting close.
Mulched the Magnolia 'Edith Bogue' bed and it is settling in nicely along with the yuccas.
I put my potted waggies outside for the summer. They are definitely happy.
And last, but not least it's my favorite trachy that I planted in July 2008. It's already growing, so another overwinter success! Can't believe it's getting so big here in zone 5!!!

your plants look good Tim. My bananas are looking pretty weak too..........I hope they pull through.

Wouldn't need it if you'd send some of that warm air up here. 😀 I'm over 30F colder than you... wet snowflakes were mixed in this morning. Yuck!!!

The potted Waggies look very healthy, and will take off with some heat.
Your fav Trachy has great color!
Speaking of cold...some say our weather will stay cool until mid-May. 👿

Some meteorologists are saying this chill could hang on until mid June here!! Looks like a summer 2009 repeat if that happens. Worst summer every. Endless days with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s in the middle of summer with a raw northeast wind. I think my orinocos only put out four leaves each that summer.
I think it will take longer than 10 days for my nanners to poke out the top. Some roots got inadvertently ripped off during the transplant process so they are probably going to sit there and grow roots for a few weeks. They did the same thing when I dug them up last fall. Didn't really start pushing leaves until November.

We haven't had a warm day even when it's sunny for several weeks.
It was warmer end of February 👿
A long Fall would be worth it, maybe.

Fall has significantly less daylight and lower sun angle than spring. That equals slower plant growth. I'll take my warmth now.
