Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Damn everything looks great I love xeriscaping more and more! I may be buying a house in the burbs and Im tempted to do a garden like that myself!! Your bismark is very red!! did you buy it like that?

Great Stuff Jim!
I love the before and afters, what a difference. Man that castor bean is gigantic! Look at the trunk on that thing, man! I also really have a new respect for the desert plants now. You might have just sparked my interest. Is the fat prickly pear looking cactus hardy in my zone do you think?
I want to see a few pictures of that nana that we have been talking about too. I see why people ask you questions now when they walk by. It's nice to see your pictures.
Bill
The purple palms are Bismarckia, they did look like that when I bought them. The big one is blue/green form, the small one is the silver form. Both Bizzies have started growing which is good news considering how root sensitive they are,one came bare root, the other had half it's soil out.
Bill, you should see the Castors in person, they are truly giants, pushing 12' with some leaves 41"in case you didn't read that!
In that picture of the seed pods you can see like,50-60 pods, each one has 6 seeds so,I should have(with 10 plants) like 2000-3000 seeds? so I should be able to spare some!
I gotta tell you guys the cactus rock! the flowers were unbelievable this spring/early summer and they are far less sensitive then palms, except you need to start keeping them dry in Oct and through winter.
They also grow so much faster than you would think, some of the barrels have more than doubled their size while producing pups. The Yuccas have grown quite a bit too, also the 3 Agaves(Parryi,Havardiana,Americana)have grown9-9-12 leaves respectively. The Prickly pad cactus is from Texas and supposedly hardy to 0F,it handled 12F last winter.-Here's a picture of the Banana and the Agave Americana/ Siam Ruby from a few months ago

Totally Awesome Jim Again!
I was thinking about your winter structure for keeping it down while the ends are open! Why not take some screw tent ties with I hooks, and screw them in on the corners and middle and cross tie ropes or bunges corner to corner to keep it grounded. This way you could open it up without worry about lift off!
Bill
Great photos 8)

Good idea,I have 6- 18" screw in spikes that I use ,I tie ropes to them and zig/zag it across the length of it along with batten straps.
