First big snow of the year 🙁 One foot of the white stuff 😯 But I guess that is why we all belong to this kind of forum 😆
Any one else out there with snow on the ground yet ❓

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

It's snowing here right now. Only suppose to get one or two inches overnight. I guess it was time to put the snowflakes back up on the index page of this forum. 😀

We recieved a light dusting last night, but it's all melted away now. The temps. have definately been cooler down here the past few days. I recorded my first frost yesterday morning when the mercury dipped down to -0.7 C. Cheers, Joe

Well at least it isn`t the dreaded arctic high pressure sunny cold blast 🙁 let it snow ,let it snow, let it snow!!! Jay it looks like a warming trend next week so the white stuff should be gone by Wed next week. The snow flakes are a nice touch 8)

I hope it warms up! My big barrel cactus is covered in a snow drift and the temps have been down to 9 deg. f. so far this fall, I have not given him a cover yet. So I hope he is as tough as I think he is 🙄
The bad thing is...that my warmest place in my yard is where the snow drifts the best.....3 foot snow drift over my less hardy cactus this year 🙁

Snow protects some plants good, but some like the barrels do better if it is not left there for to many days 🙁 I will cover it soon as the snow melts of it 😀
You are so right, this is the time of year I look forward to winter 🙂 the days will only be getting longer then 😀 Then spring will be here once again and we will have our stoies about how this one plant made it through the cold winter 😆

Well the good news is that the shortest day of the year is almost over and the days will only get longer now, the snow has been melting and the snow and ice have melted of my big barrel and I have it covered, but it does not look good 😥 I hope it tough 😀

We hit a high of 12.2C or around 54/55F yesterday and it never went below 10C/50F last night.
Very mild here.
Everything looks pretty good so far this winter. I have protected my bananas, hedychiums and cannas.
I still have kaffir lilies, alyssum, geraniums, choisya ternata, pansies and meyer lemons in bloom.
All the palms are all fine. The trachycarpus palms love this weather!
I hope it warms up for everyone else.
Aaron, let's hope your barrel cactus hangs in there.
I have a bunch of succulants in the ground for their first winter so we will see how the fair in a mild wet climate. I have them in a 50% sand mixture and will put a top cover over them in cool wet weather. I want to try cactus and more varieties of yucca but with the amount of moisture we get in North Vancouver, I am not sure about their survival without a top cover.
Aaron, any suggestions on different varieties of trunking fast growing yuccas. I have filamentosa and recurvifolia now.

I would try Y. Rostrata they have been growing them on the east coast for years now. They don't get as much rain as you do there, but alot more then I get and they seem to do ok over there 😀 The others I would try are Y. alofiola, Y. gloriosa, both of them are from the east coast and so are not as hurt by wet weather. I would also try Y. riggda, just because it like warmer weather then I have here 😆

Well it has melted enough snow for me to check on my sabal minors and I think they are doing ok 😀 But it is hard to tell this early in the season, some cactus that have been under the snow for a long time don't look so good, but we will see 😀
