Anybody else's have small leaves?

Had this little guy for approx. 7 or 8 years.
What's the trick to growing these things?

Barb, your soil is too wet. Remove the moisture holding rocks and allow the soil to dry to the point that you can barely feel any soil moisture in the peat. That is the ideal moisture level for Chamaerops.

Those 3 rocks on top were to keep the neighborhood cats from using the soil as a toilet during summer when palm is outdoors. 😉
Full sun? or shade?
I had placed it in a bit of shade to get the petioles to "stretch".

Princeps,Bizzy other Trachys etc, do this too,if there is some trauma or stress,
usually root related,they will eventually grow out of it,if healthy.
Reducing that light might make the petioles longer but what you want is a speedy recovery 😀

I agree with the soil being too damp and I am not sure about planting chamaerops in the shade -this works for trachycarpus but the one at my dad's place has been in the part shade for 4 years and is still only about 6-7 feet tall. It is however suckering quite a bit now. The other chamaerops that I planted in the sun with a dry sandy soil had done very well grew this season.
