I ordered a Sabal Minor McCurtain that's supposed to be shipped soon. It's only going to have strap leaves so I plan to keep it potted and indoors for awhile. I was just wandering if anyone else has had experience with them.

I have one I left out (unheated),the lowest temp was -4F.

It did have a few pots over it...all the green was burned
but has come back nicely.

This little McCurt has some nice blue on him already.

How big was it went you left it outside over winter Jim? Do you think I should wait a few years?

Erik, thanks for sharing. Interesting and rare rocky habitat for Sabal minor.

Henoh,
Yes, but there are several clumps, frutiing and growing, on higher and rockier terrain than this. Generally under trees birds use for roosting. 😆

Jim, looks like a pretty young plant, I guess size isn't too much of a factor in the hardiness of the McCurtains? Eris, thanks for the pic. It's neat to see a full size one like that. Amazing those grow wild in OK.

Maybe just lucky -but pretty tough and a nice recovery too for its size.

Does anyone know how moist they like their soil? I'm assuming they are drought tolerant once established but I'm guessing they'll like it moist as a small palm with only strap leaves. Mine just arrived I'll try to get pics soon.

Mine small seedling has black stretch wrap on the soil surface, so it's almost constantly moist and it's growing happily and quite fast for a sabal, or maybe McCurtain is faster grower than regular sabal?
