Well today its hot 90 and 100% humidity my favorite kind of weather. Today im just making a list of all the yard materials I need to make it nice. Like more outdoor lights , edging, palms and mulch even sand. I noticed I have palms blooming too. Both trachys male and female my mediterranean palm sex unknown, my medjool date palm female, and looks like me needle and sabal minors are pushing out something. Once the yard is more orginized Ill post more pics. Barb if you have a female trachy if you want Ill send you a pollen sack for your own seeds if you like 🙂

Hes a link to the album

Everythings looking good there Mike. I might be need of some of your pollen as well for my Trachy. Maybe you could send an extra pollen branch for me and Barb. I would gladly pay for postage and packaging for both Barb and I if she needs some as well. Interesting to think what we would call such a palm? Chibc Trachy? Thanks.

wxman I actually have 5 or 6 palms in a green house stored for the winter. I have a 14' queen palm , that christmas palm, a huge pindo palm in a 32" pot, a 6ft pygmy phoenix palm, and a very large bismarkia nobilis. I will be trucking them back and finishing the yard hopefully this week end. I know there cold sensitive so I dont bother try to put them in the ground and protect them

Okanagan ofcourse Ill send them as soon as there ripe and pollen starts falling off them. I have about 8 pollen sacks total hes pushing out.

How did I miss this post????? 😕 😕
Sorry Mike!

Thank you for the fabulous offer ... can pollen/sacs be shipped across the border?
Thank goodness it's not a white powder... 🙄
Mike, could you check with your post office and see if you need to declare what's in there?
Or can you just sprinkle it into an envelope?

Really stooooopid question...since all yours are flowering (beautifully!) would we then get hybrids?

You can tell I hated Biology with a passion 😆
The boy bee falls in love with the girl bee...

Heck, John, I'll pay for it...the packaging/shipping that is. 😆 😆
John, do we need to check with Canada Post re what a declaration should state?
Or just hope it gets through?

Oh man, I'm getting excited now 😛 😛

If it doesn't warm up soon, my old Trachy is going to be late, and miss out the time of his/her life.
😆 😆

Barb I bought a few Trachy tesan seedlings from Mike a few years ago and he just sent them in a box with no phyto. Got them no prob. looking great. I think the same would apply here. We would only need a couple of pollen branches.

That's good news, let's hope Canada Post doesn't go hysterical again with all their security garbage.

With Mike's heat wave, won't his pollen be ready long before our Trachies are "ready" to receive it?

I'm just fussing about the topic.

Sure, good plan.

Now to wait and see re gender.
Are you certain yours is female? (it can't hang down).

Barb I`m not 100% sure mine is a female. From all indications comparing pics of others it appears to be. Now only if we knew what yours was?

I don't see how we can be sure this early in the game.

Wouldn't it be TOO COOL if mine was a hermaphrodyte...

or a hismaphrodyte...

Maybe we should just ask Mike to send us bags of ALL his stuff...

Maybe Mike will post pics of his female and male flowers, since he has both?
That'd be good to see.

Plus your other yard plans, Mike.
Thanks for the webshot pics...fabulous!

I've looked at Mike's pics again.

On his album, page 1,
2nd pic is "female flowers emerging".
3rd pic is "male pollen sacs".

the only diff I can see is that the male pollen sacs are thicker.
Could that be the way to tell male from female?

Sheesh, I've developed OCD on this topic! 😕

well female flowers tend to go up but can fool you and be in any direction. when the female flower opens each flower looks like lots of little individual yellow balls. The male flower is fatter and when the flower opens and rippens its lots of yellow powder all over the place. cant confuse the male for female I dont believe. just wait till urs opens up and rippens to be 100% sure
.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the explanation.

Also thanks for the pollen offer.
Wes in Vancouver has a male Trachy and he'll send us pollen.

Unless Canada Post fouls up big time, the pollen won't be in the mail very long. 😉

Thanks again for your offer.

Will look forward to more pics of your palms flowering!
