Some people do it by date.
Others based on the upcoming forecast.
Still others on recent history or a gut feeling or an opportune weekend off.
I have put palm protection back on five of my outdoor palms. Twice already, due to changing long term forecasts.
But I have NOT taken off my insulated box off of one palm I will not risk(Brahea armata ).

When do you plan to uncover your cold-protected plants for the last time this season?
Or have you already (so what did you wait for, in that case)?

I thought this could be fun. Especially for the newcomers to this Site. Informative.
I was looking at the meberlist. There are almost 1100 registered users on this Site. But less than thirty are regular contributors.
I hope this can push some off the fence.. Join us. And share your experiences!!
PLUS I rarely, if ever see polls here. So here we go...

I go by the temps but every bit as important is the specific palms....

The smaller and damaged ones stay covered including the Princeps until
outside temps are consistent enough to allow the mulch to be pulled back
to warm the soil-the bigger Trachys are uncovered because their spears
are thicker and will not freeze from the combo of cold/moisture.

I always use long term forecasts and of course my internal feelings 😆
This picture is taken after I've removed my palms passive protection on 20th of February 🙄
We have cold winters sometimes but most of the time the weather is great!

Gorgeous pic, Zack!

Long term / historical forecasts for me.

Good poll Q, Adam.

I had one more poll option: I'm still not crazy enough to plant my palms outdoors.

Somehow it did not show up as a choice. Let's see if I can add it.

OK. Now added.

Zack, your Washy looks healthy! What were your coldest temps Zack?

I always use futurcast to remove my protection. However, you still have to keep up on day to day forcast because it seems the weather people are never right. That being said, its warm enough here that I completely emptied one of my gardens and started replanting already. Including 2 palms and 1 agave.

My plants depend of a snow cover pretty much. As soon the snow gone I start recovering my plants. This weekend I'm planning to open my palms...

Yes for sure in the N Mid East(Midwest really). Warning a rant is coming. The Mid west is different in my mind. There is the mid west and Mid East. Since Indiana is in the middle of the East. I do mean that Indiana is truly the Mideast. Some people might think differently because we have been indoctrinated to think this.. However, I like thinking outside the box. Lets look at The satellite maps in the east. Notice where the Great Lakes are, there in the middle of the east right. so how is this in the West? let's talk about the river in the mountains. If you notice the Mississippi River is on the westside of everything. Appalachian Mountains is party the other way. So this is me coz the Midwest or the Mideast. I'll let you guys decide this. End of my awesome rant.

If you can clear up what some of those words are we can figure out what your "rant" is about. 😯 😀

nice Washy Zack! It's a beauty. 8)

I'll probably take off my palm protection next weekend....we are suppose to drop to 20F-22F (-6.6C to -5.5C) tonight. I'll take another look at the long term forecast next weekend since the weather people say March will be 'below' normal. 😥

Sorry, half of my posts are done on my phone. I'll remake this one rant later on a grander way in the off topic section.
