What is the minimum temp you would probably cover your trchies?

How do you protect the Queen Palm? I notice it is in a pot , so do you bring it inside?

Hi Mike in your area you should wrap up your palm around the middle of December or slightly before my friends on Long Island NY wrap the trachys in December and I think the weather is similar maybe slightly colder on long island I will wrap up all my palms but 1 or 2 before December 1st I will make video,

thanks , for the past three years i have never wrapped them, just coverd them with pillows and a trash can on the coldest nights, i just don;t want to lose thhem

Yeah I probably would not cover my palms that much in your zone but every few years you get some cold temps pass thru keep that in mind

What do you do with your potted palms that are large? (Queen and Pindo?)

I've done it in the past . I tie up all the fronds camping cored or bungee cord and then put frost cloth or arbotex. Next thing depending on the palm is just the box near the foundation 2-3 inch styrofoam and away from the house a heat source flo-pac lights or x-mas or heat cables -My new invention/experiment this year will involve 25 mature palms ranging from 6-12 feet tall and will have bubble wrap and bulbs or heat cables. I will make a video of that

Mike, I was mostly curious how you assemble the stryofoam boxed together. Do you use adhesive? is there any framing or other form of support and strength on the inside?

I can't imagion how as tall as they are they stay together in the wind.

Hi Scott. I used to glue the boxes together but they took up too much space when it was time to store them for the summer.
I now use shrink wrap to hold the 4 panels and lid together. I use aluminum tape to secure the panels and lid in place and then shrink wrap with the help of a few people. When use see palettes of mulch etc... at the Home Depot stores the plastic
around it is shrink wrap. Feel free to leave your tel # I can provide you with additional info if you like

Noticed your video the title says MONTREAL PALMS VERY COLD HARDY PALMS -14C
and in the video you say feels like -14C.What is the actual air temp and what have they seen uncovered?

If that was 6.8F air= you would have a yard of black palms.
