great advice Barb 😉
Both Trachys still have no sign of new growth. I poured the copper fungicide down both trunks and we were lucky to have a few days of warm dry weather. the last spear is dried up on the one that had shelter...the one without shelter has a little spear down inside and I'm still hopeful. Really not sure how they're going to pull through. at least my one banana is growing 🙄
Thanks for asking Barb, hope all is well on your end!

Heidi, I'm surprised the spear is dried up on the Trachy that was sheltered from all the rain.

Presume you've taken the winter cover off after all the rain and fungicide treatment?

I think some new pics on your post would allow us to compare results from last time.

Glad your nanners are growing!

Yes Ive taken all winter cover off long ago. its back to rain today for the next 3 days so when we get a break I'll take new pictures and post them. Regarding the sheltered Trachy, maybe on the coldest nights when I wrapped the leaves up, it caused the tree some rot, maybe I left it on too long in between temp fluctuations? That's my only guess as to what's caused this.

Wrapping has its problems, especially one that doesn't allow air circulation.
You want to keep moisture out, but not at the expense of restricting air.

People in U.K. mostly use "frost cloth" wrapped very loosely around the growing tip.
But then I'd love to have the U.K.'s winter weather 😉

Look forward to seeing the updates.

The old Trachy looks happy to be in the ground. Sure is doing good.

Barb you should know in the next week or so what your trachy flowers are. Your flower spathes look different than mine at the same age, for what it`s worth. Your palm is looking very healthy. It looks like it skipped the creap 2nd year and went straight to the to the 3rd year leap stage. You will be building a new palm hut in no time. 😆

Bite your tongue, John 😆 😆
You know what the last one cost me!

I've emailed Wes to get some male pollen sent up ASAP, hopefully we're not too late because yours is ahead of mine.
But like I said earlier "Remind me again WHY we want thousands of Trachy seedlings?" ha ha

Thanks everybody!

Barb I`m thinking these seeds would be a valuable addition to the Trachycarpus gene pool. My Trachy flowering now has seen temps of near it`s cold hardy limits -17c -17.8c -17.3c last three years. I think we could probably give the seeds away to anybody on this board knowing they are from cold hardy zone 6 survivor stock. I love this hobby! 😆 Here is an update on my inflorescents and a couple of my newly planted T.nainital. Scroll through the 8 pics. By the way the bananas in the wideview pics are from the Basjoo you gave me last year. I separated seven pups from the mom. When we come up for a visit I`ll bring you a couple back home. Sorry to hijack your post. 🙄

OK, I'm convinced though mine hasn't seen tough conditions.
Unless we include being in a garbage bucket for eons 😆
Yes, we'll give seeds to anyone on PN.
But I'm still worried that mine is so late to bloom...the bugger still hasn't opened up yet, so it's likely a female, because Wes says his males always bloom early, waiting for the females to open.
But it's growing a handle.

Sounds like the dating service is alive and well.

Your pics are fabulous John.
Nice looking great colour on the new NainiTals.

What a feature that planted bed is! 😀

Seven pups?
Don't you darebring a banana back 😆 😆
They get so shredded here in our winds...that's why I gave it to you.
By the end of every summer it looks like a flag pole after a war 😛

Thanks for the great pics.

No bananas no prob. I have a few 5 gal.Sabal minor and Sabal louisiana and some T. nainital. You could plant a couple or more under that Trachy that`s on a 30 year old growth spurt. I don`t think they would interfere with the existing palm hut until your Trachy outgrows the hut next year 😆 We`ve got to bring something for our annual visit?

Jim, my May 23 post is the latest pic.
Still hasn't opened inflorescence 😡

John, very kind of you to offer more palms/nanas, but just bring me some warm weather.
I'd be very happy with that.

If I stick one more palm into the confined space of that palm hut, the carpenter will quit 😆 😆
Or he'd have to lose about 60 pounds...
