I checked some of the baggies with Fortunei seeds that Joe sent sent me. I spotted some (didn't check all of them) that had a white root (presumably) growing.
Now, do I wait until I see a green leaf, then pot them, or do I do it now in potting soil with sand and pine bark?
Once a leaf has formed I pull them out and pot them up. Cheers, Joe
Growing palms and other exotic plants here in the Southern Gulf Islands.
With palms, etc. I usu. let them grow at least 2 cm of root and then I might plant them. I get lazy though and sometimes I wind up waiting until at least the seed leaf (sometimes the first strap) comes out. My approach probably comes from my planting heritage of growing maples, oaks, etc. from seed tho... One thing I have noticed tho is that if I leave them in the baggie on top of the refrigerator they usu. put out the seed leaf more quickly and then the first strap comes out sooner as well.
