Its under the blue tarp with lots of insulation....
the remote sensor stopped working and I have no
way to know if the rope lights turned on-I used these
instead of bulbs because its rapped so tight )-:
LOW WAS 14F last night here in the yard(6' up).
The forecast was for a low of 18F,no problem without heat if everything is wrapped tight....
I woke up at 4am to the screams of palms(kidding/kinda)and watched the temp at the airport plunge from 12F to 10F )-:
The Washy is in the big blue tarp...Butia and baby Takil in front(unheated).

Beware if this Arctic front comes through with 1/2" of snow or more-it will change those forecasted low temps downward 5-10F

Got to love needle palms and Sabal minor today! Trachy, too. Look so nice with that snow on the fronds.
Really hope you can pull that Washy through winter.
no way to know if the rope lights turned on
10F ? oh oh, but if it's wrapped/insulated well, one night would probably be OK.
But the Butia.... 😕 ouch.
Wattage is really low on LEDs.
Emit light, not heat like incandescents with a filament.
After reading your post, I plugged in a rope light string indoors.
After 15 minutes it still felt the same temp.

Would you be better off--with really tight wrapping--to have installed a heat tape like Beny and Keith do?
I doubt rope lights would keep a water line from freezing like heat tape will. 😉
Time for a new remote, Jim.
Remember to get new batteries for both the sending unit AND the receiver.
One of my units came with instructions about which unit to install batteries in first.
I've got a related issue but will post a new topic.

Its -8c ( 15F) this morning, and i still have a lot of Trachy, Needle and Chamaerops uncovered. And all looks fine...will warm up tomorrow, but today the high is only 30F 😯 ....few degrees below normal...

Thanks you guys.....

I always use new batteries(the good ones)but-some of the sensors are going on 6 years old now
and I know I needed lots of rest when I was 6 years old 😀 I think they are crapping out.
If you take your rope lights and make a circle on the ground(like rolling up a hose)where the
strands are laying on top of each other the surface temp will go over 100F eventually.
They give off a little heat but it dissipates so fast it is unnoticed-btw
This was a temporary measure and insurance just in case it went below the forecasted 18F
because I just wanted a tiny amount of heat if needed-the c-9 lights would be to cramped...
if the sensor would have worked I could have been able to see if the ropes lights heat could even
make it to 45F to shut the Thermocube off.
Going to uncover it now,I will take some pics-if it got nuked look for a thread title called.

Fingers crossed for you.
P.S. only 20 oF here this morning. Still zone 9, right? 😆

Yeah, between the sensors, receivers, ext cords, Tcubes and lights, the risk increases as stuff ages.
And then there's this to really mess with my mind:

Good to know. I'll do that.
Looking forward to seeing the pics.
Fingers crossed it's fine especially with good job wrapping.
Think I still prefer a heated air space vs tight wrapping.
I've had too much fungus damage from not enough air movement.

Got to a low of 9 deg F on Monday here while I was gone on vacation. Forecast before I left said low of 19, so wasn't too worried about what I had left outside in pots.
about 5 Mexican Fan Palms, CIDP's, Chinese Fan Palm(both in a pot, and 3 in the ground), Both Silver and Green versions of European Fan palms.
All the Mexican Fans took a hit and discolored and hopefully now that they are in some protection in my garage will pull through. Amazingly the Chinese fan palms seem to be untouched! Even the ones in the ground that I over winter tells me they are a lot tougher than I would have thought. Needless to say the Europeans did fine too.
Next time, I won't pay attention to the weathermen.

9F and yea, it sucked while I watched the temps from Phoenix, AZ 🙁
Forgot to mention the two Windmill palms in the ground that are not yet protected. Again, they both sailed through the cold just fine.
