Trachycarpus naga hills, or mishmi hills. Anybody had any experiece with this new palm . They are supposed to look and be as cold hardy or more than T. takil. They are also supposed to be recently discovered 3 years ago in a northern India mountain region. Any thoughts or experience?

Always great to see these new palm hardy lists.
Cheers:Ian Mc
I have three small seedlings in my greenhouse. They develop thinner and curlier strap leaves than the other species of trachycarpus.
I will let you know how they fair in an unheated greenhouse this winter.

Thanks Wes, looking forward to how they fare in the future π

I find after doing research on these new Trachycarpus discoveries that they are in such remote mountainous locations it takes a real globe trotting bottanist to tell the difference from something new vs. already discovered. I am concerned that any new cold hardy T. will eventually be a hybrid with all the other Tracyhcarpus species where they are grown in close contact with each other. I guess I`ll have to go to northern India and get my own seeds to be absolutely sure? All I want for Christmas is a cold hardy palm!!!!!!

if you are looking for cold hardy Trachycarpus than you have to take fortunei. it is the hardiest species within that genus.
Manipur/Naga hills/Ukhrulense is not that coldhardy as it comes from a climate which hardly sees any frost and if there is frost is ist not lower than -3ΓΒ°C
It comes from Northern Burma (Myanmar) or Northeast India and grows up to an elevation of 4.000 - 6.000 ft, where it is subtropical.
I beleive it is not much hardier than T. martianus which also grows on the same latitude and same elevation not far away from there.
