Growing palms and tropicals in cold climates
Well I just planted my needle palm that I grew from seed.
It was time to plant it and see if it survives the Kelowna BC winters!
Rhapidophyllum hystrix. The needle palm, is a palm native to coastal margins
of the subtropical eastern Gulf and south Atlantic states of the United States.
The most cold hardy palm that is rumored to survive temps around -26c (-15F)
We'll see how it goes. Here's some pictures of my needle palm in Kelowna BC Canada. 🙂

December 2025 update.
It hasn't been really cold yet. Maybe around -5 c

And this picture was on Christmas day December 25th 2025.
I'll keep updating this post in the future and see how the needle palm in kelowna does after winter. 🙂
