We had -22C this morning and we had 45 or more days below freezing.

If I had a palm (needle palm or trachycarpus) even with protection, I can not belive
it would survive this cold for this long.

They are calling for a cold spring for us but forecasts are showing well above normal.

Would a palm make this cold with proctetion or not?

With the winter that both of us have had, we would need a knock-down, insulated and heated 'house' for them.

We are lucky that we are this far south. My kids have had wider temperature swings and almost a foot of snow in the past week. Just NE of the city they had freezing rain then a sudden temperature drop that shut everything down.

I hope that the weather that shut down the 400 missed you.

Man you guys are some persistant! -22c (-30f) !!! I'm not even going to tell you how mild it was here in comparison. Winter protection you need is well beyond my scope.

Cheers, Barrie.

Hey Barrie;

-22 C( -10F) is not that cold. We don't go skinny dipping or anything rash and we do wear coats most of the time. 😆

Sorry Allen ... I reckon it was a typo on my part. Either way much too cold for my liking or my palms. I planted a pink blooming Nerium oleander today that was getting too large for it's container. I also got a nice (small) cutting from a gardening neighbor last fall of a deep rich, nearly red oleander. I planted that one too in fairly close proximity for comparison.

Cheers and stay warm, Barrie.

I envy you your oleanders. There is not much hope of growing them here.

I have two jubaea seedlings I want to plant out in the garden. They are one gallon size. Am I planting them too small? I had them out side for the last two years in a small unheated greenhouse and they made out fine. How big was yours when you planted it?
