I did it. It put her in the ground. Now I have about 6 or 7 months to figure out the best winter protection.

Your Trachy looks great! As for your winter protection, there is a poster on another forum that has successfully over wintered larger palms in zone 4 with great success. He uses boxes made out of insulation board with ceramic lights for heat. The palms are covered for the entire winter and have survived outside temps of -40*F. Since you have such a large investment in your palm, this might be the best solution for you.

First of all...nice lookin tree...
You'll need and extension on the front of your home to house that palm...
I like Caliwanna's suggestion..I've overwintered some 4 foot fortunei's using glass/plexi palm houses and it worked fine.
I'm in a Z6-area...

Way to go Dan. Looks Great!
I would use the method Craig pointed out for sure. Seems like the best way to protect through long extreme cold. That would be the method I would use if I was going to put something in the ground.

I will figure something out by next fall. The bonus is the front of my house faces south. It is blocked from north winds for now. The red brick on the house absorbs the suns heat pretty good. Whenever we have had snow the front flower bed melts before the snow on the lawn does.
