usually Ensete grows about 4-5' from a plug or 4" pot
here and its usually to small to store in the basement-
not this year.

Did your delosperma cooperi survive 2 winters ago Jim? Mine all rotted. In fact, all my ice plants rotted. I've tried 4 different varieties and they've had excellent drainage.

Me neither...I have had to grow them all
from very small plants.

What usually happens is,the main part
of the plant that goes into the ground rots of
and leaves the remainder of the plant sitting
on top of the soil where it parishes if not replanted
....some of mine always survive because they are partly
covered by the cactus enclosure.
