Not sure whats going on this winter. My futurecast will look good for a month and then all of a sudden we are getting freezing rain. WTH 😈
Guess I will be recovering all the palms till I get back in march. We all know the weather ppl aint gotta clue!
Same here-it was supposed to be in the 40s and 50s in the 25 day forecast by the end of Feb-
that was pushed back and pushed back and has fallen of the end of the world=none in sight now-
and the beginning of March doesn't look any better....in another month we will have forgotten about winter!

I can't wait to see what the Princeps does this year too-usually grows 5 leaves per summer
and at the rate they are increasing in size it should look amazing by fall-if all goes well from here.

My fortuni I have inside ( a small 1 gallon ) is starting to yellow on the lower leaves spring really needs to come on.
For sure-
there are a surprisingly high number of Princeps for sale on E-bay right now....

I unwrapped my plants between March 11-15 even here in Montreal last year.
Guess I'll do my around that time as well Least the Placed but am Leaveing the Brabe up. Indiana has the most fu*ked up weather, Its just as bad as Troundo as well I think.
Nobody panics when people plant normal trees because its part of the plan... if someone plants a Palm EVERYONE LOSES THERE MINDS!

I don't cover the Bamboo-
I was going to cover the Black bamboo when it hit -4F but I didn't feel like it-
the trunk/stems are still o.k. and should regrow some leaves this spring...

They are saying 4-8" of snow here but I am guessing more like 2-3"
as it appears to be drying up as it arches past/over us.
Doesn't look like anything can be uncovered for the foreseeable future 🙁

the princep does seem easier to find now I really need to pick one up and get a jump on things.
They will love your climate-they seem to thrive in the 65-95F range.
A little more of a heat lover than regular Trachys which seem to love 55-65f nights and highs in the 80s(F)

coldest low in the foreseeable future is -5c. So the covers are off of the c.humilis silver, T fortunei and Sabal minor.
I hope they are happy!

Ah, bet that felt good, Adam.
For you...not the palms 😆 😆
You're not concerned about spears getting wet and freezing overnight?
Great looking palms, nice sizes.

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.
Those temps with moisture can cause small palms to spear-pull,trust me-I seem to do this every year!
We ended up with around 6" of snow from this last storm-it just never quit.....
the stronger Feb sun(even behind the clouds)melted some off the roads.....
Unfortunately the next storm is on the way and they are already mentioning a possible blizzard
with heavy snow possible-March looks to be quite different than last year with snow cover like this 😕
<img src="http://weathersticker.wunderground.com/weathersticker/big2_cond/language/www/US/IA/Fairfield.gif" alt="Click for Fairfield, Iowa Forecast" border="0" height="60" width="468" />
I am concerned of possible spear pull. But the Sabal was SO dry... It had seen -5.5c on many of the nights and seems fine.
What is most at risk of rain/freeze/spearpull?
-Sabal minor
-Chamaerops humilis silver
-Trachycarpus fortunei
I can always cover in the instance of rain that may freeze within a few hours after. Is the primary concern with moisture at the the spear emergence point?
It did feel good to rid the garden.of two boxes and the gnarly tent. Planning to have NO protection on the minor next winter aside from nights -15c or colder (we had none of those nights this winter or last).

we got about a half inch of ice last night but a nice 55 degree day melted everything away today...Just got a new var. lady palm today so the princep is next on the list. Where do you recommend I get it from Jim? yours seem to be doing so well I'd like some of the same stock.
What is most at risk of rain/freeze/spearpull?
I'd cover all three with plastic if it's going to rain and freeze overnight.
But that's just me.
