Hello everyone,
2-3 years ago I planted my first palm seeds including Jubaea chiensis. After about a year I noticed the first plants coming up. The first 1-2 leaves were the largest and each newer leaf after those is smaller and smaller. These are the container grown palms. All of the seedlings that are growing in the ground produce fewer but larger and heathier leaves. I fertilize with Osmocote, Osmocote +, miracle grow not on a regular basis with no results. Does anyone have some suggestions or experiance growing them in pots? I am in zone 9b/10a in California what I thought would be an ideal climate.

Jubaea has been frustrating for me. Here is my potted specimen, from seed from N. California and grown in Portland, Oregon:

It looks much worse now and will probably be in the compost pile by the end of the week.
I think you have a much better climate for Chilean wine palms than I do. My summers are hot, dry and windy.
Do you have other palms?

The Jubaeas are outside, some growing in sun others are in shade. I have a few small Butias as well and they are doing great in the same conditions. I also pull out Washingtonias and Phoenix canariensis as weeds. I don't have the space for these to be popping up on their own.
I will try to post some pictures later today if the weather cooperates.

Jubaea, your butia is really growing well compared to the jubaea.
Have you tried giving them some manganese and potassium?
And some epsom salts (magnesium)?
Oh...to be in a zone 9b/10a! 😀
