Is it a huge pool or just a little Dobie...?
He's a min pin and loves to run on the winter cover. Luckily he only weighs a few pounds. Anything to cause a ruckus LOL!
that's great, how cute!!

Adorable!
Good luck keeping him out of the pool in summer 😆

Closed up the boxes tonight. Not the most ideal weather... had heavy rain all day but I don't have much choice as they're talking snow storm. I covered the top roofs with plastic and then shrink wrapped as best I could considering my deck in the way. I'm not going full blown on the plastic cover in an effort to allow things to dry out. Also I decided against the cardboard panels this year as last year with them getting wet lead to mold issues, and it's bad enough with the wood being wet, I don't need soggy cardboard.
Doug, yeah, good idea to not use cardboard again.
And with all the moisture/wet wood, probably a good idea to leave a tiny hole here and there near the top to let moisture out.
They're Trachies after all!
Good luck with the storm.

Good luck. That is a lot of work. It has been another warm wet winter so far here too. I have done nothing to my trachies yet. The low has only gotten to 30 degrees one night so far and this whole week's lows have been in the 50s and 40's...should get back down to 30 one or two nights this coming week....Gonna cover mine with big trash cans and outdoor furniture pillows so I can remove during the days like last year.

All you need is a face on that and a sign that says-Take me to your leader! 😀

Good work, Jeff.
That'd make it in Alaska.

LOL.
It should do ok lol. I'll take pictures of my other two boxes. I have a waggie in a box and a pindo in a box. Each has one fluorescent light fixture.

Here are some pics of the Garden this winter.
This is the Windmill all boxed up, you can just make out the white rose cone for the Dwarf Palmetto. The Japanese Maple never gets protected.
Another look at the front along with the Musa Bajoo's protected for the winter.
This is my temporary greenhouse. First year I've tried one so let's see how it goes. Also my boxed Pindo.
Buddy, a boxed Waggie, a blanketed Needle and a protected Musa.
The rum shack, the Needle and Musa's.
I also have 2 Canary Island Date Palms and what Mike believes to be 4 Pygmy Date Palms that I salvaged from the GF's condo building planters. I have a sago I dug up, lost 2 during the summer, my Red Banana's that I dug up, all 10ft of them, Hibiscus and other assorted plants in my greenhouse.

Neat rum shack! 😆
Good work on the GH. What's in it over winter?
How long has your pindo been in the ground?
Wondering why you chose fluorescent lights over incandescent.
Thanks for the great photos.

Greenhouse has some red banana that I dug up in the green house, a couple are 10' tall. I have 5 hibiscus in there, 1 sago, 2 Canary Island Date Palms, 4 pygmy date palms, a couple young Musa Bajoo, a Papyrus, some herbs, datura that I cut down and dug up to see how they do for fun, a couple castor plants, a Brugmansia that was hit by frost and dropped it's leaves before I dug it up. Its currently flowering in there along with all the Hibiscus.
Mike suggested going with fluorescent's I believe, or maybe I did lol. Each light fixture is 4' long and holds 2 bulbs. The little boxes have 1 light each and the big box has 3 inside (6 bulbs). The two small boxes maybe come on 4 times a day. I have external flood lights hooked to them to know when they come on. The big guy in the front doesn't usually go off unless we get over 0 or there is a lot of sun on it. I still need to seal the top up and also tarp it, that may keep a little more heat inside of it.
I didn't protect any of them until the week before Christmas. They were all doing very well with most nights just below freezing. We had two nights where we got down to -6 and -8. The one -8 night I through blankets over them and put a flood light shining inside the blanket. The Windmill a wrapped some Christmas lights around it for the cold night. None of the fronds suffered any freeze damage.

Thanks for your fluorescent explanation.
Having had to replace a burned out fluorescent bulb in a two-bulb fixture--the lights had been on for 8 hours--I was surprised the still-lit one didn't burn fingers.
But in a small enclosure like a palm hut, obviously does the job for you.
And you're fortunate it hasn't been too cold.
Great plants in the GH...the more you fill it up, the warmer they are. 😀
You'll love late winter in your GH...
t-shirt weather inside...with a steaming cup of coffee.
If there's still room for a chair 😉

If it warms up a little, I'm going to build an extension off the front to transfer the palms into it so I have some room to enjoy it lol. I have a bar set up in the garage with some chairs and a radio lol.

Heck...just replace all the garage siding with plastic and presto...big GH 😆 😆
Enjoy!
