Hi Mike,

I'd like to order a 1 gal Needle Palm, but the Order form only showed the $79 Needle, and there wasn't a spot for calculating shipping to BC.

Congrats on a nice site, despite the order form "going sideways".

Hey Barb

Did you go to
www.windmillpalms.info--the other 2 sites are not updated yet.
this is where you will see price list
to order you can e-mail me at mikejjpage@yahoo.ca or call 514-481-0683 office - 514-476-0683 cel--514-487-8882 home
I will even give you the 5% off Barb-something I do not usually do for 1 gal palms. As for shipping, small palms usually go via Canada Post and because all palms are different, we have to calculate 1 palm at a timel got to canada post.com they can calculate for you. If you give me your tel # I will call you
thanks
CoconutMike

The first site you listed didn't allow me to place an order (wasn't clickable).

I've resisted the urge to get a needle palm simply because they don't trunk.
So send me a needle that trunks. 😆

Will get back to you later.

Hey Barb yeah We do 90 % of all orders on the phone- old school. The paypal thing was ok on montrealplants but got confusing when people changed their orders or added things and shipping was a problem. I sent you an e-mail with pics of the 1 gal needle palm sporting a little trunk. Trunking Needle palms do not often end up in the garden centers this is how they end up in the wild. I did sell a 7 FT OA needle palm last August with at least 3 FT CT-see picture
cheers

Curious as well. I may be interested in a needle or few if you do ship to the US. I'm in West Michigan.

PALM TREE SHIPPING TO THE USA--BY COCONUTMIKE
HELLO EVERYONE. IN MID-DECEMBER I CONTACTED A US CUSTOMS BROKER AND -AGRICULTURE CANADA AS WELL AS THE USDA. ACCORDING TO
http://www.aphis.usda.gov/import_export/plants/manuals/ports/downloads/plants_for_planting.pdf
MOST PALMS ARE NOT ALLOWED FROM CANADA TO THE USA. SO FAR THE NEEDLE PALM SEEMS TO BE OK BUT --TRACHYCARPUS-SABAL-BUTIA-COCOS NUCIFERA AND MANY OTHERS ARE NOT ALLOWED BACK. BECAUSE COLD HARDY PALMS HAVE NEVER BEEN SOLD IN THE USA BEFORE AND THIS IS SOMETHING NEW THE USDA OFFICE -CUSTOMS BROKER AND AGRICULTURE CANADA IS CONFUSED AND ARE LOKKING INTO IT. SO THE NEXT QUESTION IS THE PHYTO. ALL PLANTS COMING IN OR OUT OF CANADA OR THE US --REQUIRE A PHYTO- CERTIFICATE-USUALLY COSTING A $100. MY US CUSTOMS BROKER FOUND AN ACT INSIDE THE USDA MANUAL ALLOWING PLANTS FROM AMERICAN ORIGIN BACK INTO THE US FROM CANADA WITH ORIGINAL US PHYTO COPY---- PROVIDING THE TURN-AROUND IS FAST. THE LAWS SEEM TO CONTRADICT EACH OTHER IN THE MANUAL

US CUSTOMERS -PLEASE BE PATIENT WHILE I GET ANSWERS TO ALL OF THESE QUESTIONS- I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE US ORDERS UNTIL I KNOW MORE. I DO NOT WANT TO SMEAR MY BUS. REPUTATION FOR A FEW PLANTS EVEN THOUGH WE ARE SO CLOSE AND I'D LOVE TO GET THEM TO YOU. IF YOU NEED A PHYTO SMALL PALMS MAY NOT BE WORTH THE EFFORT FOR EITHER PARTY. I JUST WANTED IT TO BE CLEAR I DON'T WANT CONFUSION BECAUSE IT IS MORE OF A HOBBY FOR ME AND MY PRICES SHOW THIS.

I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED.

THANKS

COCONUTMIKE

Typical government getting in the way.

🙁 Thanks for trying Mike and keeping on top of it.

Odd, how I can order a coconut palm from Puerto Rico and the USDA has no issues with that....but gives Canada a problem.

Mike,

Thanks for clarifying the "border situation".

Just one thing Mike didn't mention that was brought up several years ago by another PN member (forgot who it was...sorry):

If you live close to the border and can arrange for palms to be held there, waiting for you, or you shop at a nursery there yourself, you can apparently cross back into your own country, with the palms in the back seat, because you're declaring them as "houseplants".

This seems a "little sketchy" to me, because all it takes is one border constabulary who feels palms could be planted out in soil, instead of keeping them inside as houseplants--thereby bringing in microscopic nematodes, etc.--affecting our native crops (i.e. potatoes, corn, wheat, etc.), and you can see where it'd lead to delays or confiscation.

But to prevent any problems (confiscation/loss of money/confusion/death of plants while waiting for clarification), it's best for each purchaser to check themselves with their own government's requirements. Even to go so far as to state which border crossing you'll be travelling, because apparently rules are occasionally "stretched".

That's why a lot of eBay U.S. palm/cycad sellers won't ship live plants, even bare-root, to Canada.
Generally a phytosanitary certificate costs $100 per order...but don't let them charge you $100 per plant.

If anybody has other recent experiences, please add your info.

Thanks Mike for clarifying to new members.

Can you drop ship to US customers? I'm also in the market for some larger trunk windmills if The price is right. Looking at what $1000 will buy me.

Hey Wheelman-I am not even sure if the windmill palms will be allowed I am working with a US customs broker that is in contact with the USDA as well as Agriculture Canada. I will no something next week. We must do our homework we do not want to risk confiscation at the border
