My trachy looks something like yours, I drenched it in copper-based fungicide, which took care of the mold in a few days, now the (brown) spear seems to be pushing up very slowly.

the Trachys appear to be 'saveable'......is that a word....LOL. I've never seen that on my palms......hope you can solve the problem.

Good news first: they look vastly better than mine did a month ago, after my super cold (-30 C) in February.
Less good news: for whatever reason, they got some fungus.
I used some chemical product (Chlorothalonil) from the local store last month. It seems to have worked, in combination with warm, dry weather.
Right now, I have weather like you (rain, cool) and yet they are growing. --Erik

Thanks for the pictures, I was really able to compare your Trachy to mine. I'm sure your palms will pull through, don't give up hope yet! I'm sure they'll slowly recover in time.

Thanks everyone! Jordan I have copper fungicide too and another member suggested I use it. It's a powder I mix into a solution but I thought I'd try my Defender first. Perhaps I'll get on it with the copper if that helped your Trachy I'd sure like to see some growth soon on mine too.

Heidi, agree with everyone it's saveable with copper.
Maybe Defender was already a dilute mixture, not enough "punch."

While it's never good when a new spear goes brown, the adjacent leaves look so very healthy that it's likely not on its deathbed.

Zap it with copper, keep it dry.
Some people even drill a very small hole so the copper can drain away.

Heat will do it good.
If you get some, send it here too 😆

Thank you Barb - Wes also suggested the copper so I'll be applying that today...we finally have sun! hope it's shining there for you too. I agree, we need some heat, won't that finally be nice! I'll let you know how it goes. thanks for the reassurance (my poor babies!! 🙁 )

glad you have sun!

We have had rather a lot of rain the past week.
Today, I had spear pull on a Trachy. There was white fungus in the crown. I sprayed in a bunch oif chlorothanil (sp?), and some on the other Trachy for good measure.

This is a Trachy that survived the -30 C with cover but no heat, and was growing in March and April. I assume the cold in February weakened it, but there was no fungus I could see until the heavy rains of the past week.

Anyway, sun, warmth and strong winds today should dry all palm crowns out. 🙂

Heidi hopefully it will push out new growth after you treat the crown. All good advice your getting from everyone. Warm dry weather should help real soon.

Probably just need to wait until the weather warms up.

It may pull as it grows out of it or it may just grow out.

Just have to wait and see,the rest of the plant-petioles
next to it- looks fine so it's definitely got a chance.
