How hot does it need to to be for a canary island date palm to.start pushing out new growth?

growing the impossible in my zone 5b?

If planted they will need warmer soil temps to respond..
otherwise most of the stuff we grow including tropical
stuff will put on good growth @ 70F....soil temps over 50F
at least and at least 60F for tropicals..

I would say not much at all. I over winter mind in the garage and they never really stop growing, although much slower. Love these palms.

Attached garage is well insulated and even at 0F doesn't get to freezing in there. I do have a propane wall mounted heater that I can turn on when temps drop below 0f for extended time which doesn't happen often. I also had installed 12 can lights so can keep it lit as much as I want, but last year also had a 14inch Sun tube installed in the 3rd car part where palms are over wintered, that way they get some natural sunlight as well. The most cold hardy of the group are closest to the garage doors where I assume it's the coldest. The least cold hardy palms I keep in there are my two queens and Mexican fan plams.

Now that we have been in the 80s for a few weeks I can see mine grow. And since its potted I water it often too.
