Here is a selection of different pics from late Oct.

First some flowers-

Graptopetalum paraguayense

This color in person is spectacular!

The broom(for reference) in some the following pics is a little shy of 5'

Notice the Brugs in the following pic(now gone),they were whacked to ground and still grew back to 6'

Castor's looked like freakin trees!

The small Cooperi

Sequoia 😀

A.americana-between the thai black Bananas

Rain shield goes up Oct 1 but is only over the cactus when rain is coming

Basjoos

Abyssinian

Orinoco(?)same kind as the one flowering-

Thai giant,Saba,Alocasia

All getting stored are put away for winter

What a relief having this faze completed, now attention turns to preserving T.ferns then
the Washys and then Trachys,Sabals,cactus etc-moving from least(upper 20s(f) to most 0(f)
to -20(f) hardy. 😀

Wow jim, had a long day did we?
Are those canna rosemand cole? and richard wallace ( first 2 canna pics)

:O You had nanners! Have you got an Id on that baby?

Everything looks ( or i guess looked eh:S) good. I cant belive how little roots there are on the bananas. How big are the plants when you bring em in? How heavy at that size dude? The albyssian looks like it weighs a good 100 pounds!

I didnt cut my alocasia or colocasia down when i brought em in ( they only had one leaf each). Their doing well so far. Do you bring yours down to the basement with the naners?

Some of those bananas are going to put up some serious size next year. That albyssian is going to get huge! Maybe the basjoos will flower as well?

Thanks for showing the pics bill, no rest for the wicked is there?

Look at the bananas !!!!! 😯 😀 😀 😀
Well done!
I can say I've seen bananas growing in the North (well, sort of north).

Yes, my graptopetalum (thanks for the name) have lovely colors like that too.
Camera almost doesn't do it justice.

The brugs' second growth is 6 feet? holy cow!

The Sequoia is getting so blue, lovely. It really grew this year.

So have the Cactus and yucca and agave...that bottom-trimmed yucca is a nice look.

Get a winch to pull the nanas out next year 😆

How much light do the stored bananas get? from a window? or bulb? or nothing?

All your palms look so healthy.
Hope the cold weather stays away until you're done.

Soon time to rest and plan next year's garden. What a great job you did this year.

No Basjoos were brought in,why bother?-no seriously some of those corms, etc were a few hundred pounds!

It's hard to get the scale but there is a 1 gallon paint can in the Banana basement pics.

The yellow Canna with the orange markings is Picasso.

The Alocasia and Colocasia are inside the house, have some serious space now that the Abyssinian is down in the basement!

It is like a giant Sequoia trunk.

Some kind of Orinoco on the Banana(I.D.) I imagine,it was in the basement last winter and much smaller than anything down there this year!

All the bananas were cut down to 7' of trunk to fit in the basement.

Thanks for looking

Thanks so much for all your kind words Barb.

The put away is done, only the A,americana to dig up-nothing after that?

Bill and I were kidding around about wrenching the Nanars out,he said he was
jumping/breaking 2x4 and 4x4s trying to pry his out! 😯

No light needed for the Bananas in the basement.

Ya jim, i was talking to someone who knew someone who had an ensete in edmonton. He has to dig it up every fall, and within 3 years i was told, it takes 3 or 4 people to bring it in the house now. But damn are they sexy... I ordered some albyssian seeds. Hopefuly next year ill have at least one to put in the yard.

Thanks for answering my questions. Just one more LOl sry. Do you wrap the naners at all, or do you just let them sit as they are in the pic? Im assuming you wrap the roots to keep em moist?

What a growing season! Everything looked so lush and green still!

I think I might be getting too old when my back aches just looking at the size of some of those plants! Wow.

Are you going to plant out any of your "true" takils next year? I have some (finally) popping and was thinking about what the hell the do with the things. I've run out of space in the "greenhouse".

Like the man in the movie says.......the stay as they lay.

In this case stand-as long as it's cool, they don't need any water
and your better off not,as they may rot 😀

Paul

I won't plant any Takil............(I don't think but now that you mention it,hmmmmm)
probably not until they get some divided leaves but maybe not a bad idea to get one established at an early age.
Maybe if a spot opens up next spring-but I hope not!
For now they are on the porch as long as the days warm up and temps don't go below 20(f) for long.

BTW

Thanks Tim!

Yea,I really like the Stutt's!

I wish I had a better place to plant them.

BTW

I did all that over the span of a few days,I think if I tried to do it all at
once I would hate doing all this-to much like work.

We are having an incredible fall-dry and sunny.
I think we only had 2-3 cloudy days in Oct,nice to wake up every morning to sun,
like living in Az or Cali 😀

I cover my Cooperi when it gets below freezing, only one day so far probably another
2 the next 2 nights but it's fun to not have to cover them yet,Washys either, more to see in the yard!
