I like the fortunei better but i don't have any wagnerianus palms so my opinion could change when i get some. 😀 You wouldn't happen to have some seeds would you? I recently bought some T. fortunei & S. minor seedlings from Joe on SSI but didn't get any wagnerianus.

I love fortunei's because of their cold hardiness. In my zone 7a, so I can't be as picky about what palms I can grow. T. fortunei is the most cold hardy and very attractive, so I would have to say its my favorite! 😀

I like waggies better, they are just as cold hardy and and hold up better in windy conditions.

With so many new poster on this board I want to see what everyone thinks about the two most common trtachycarpus palms.

I prefer the waggies as they are shorter and I would be able to protect them better in winter.

Shorter is better for protection.
I have only a Trachy and like its more robust look.
Looks a little "cleaner" to me than Waggies.

You should have requested seed on this forum. Seed is available in Victoria (for purchase from a palm society member) and I have a few hundred from trees on Vancouver Island down to California. Note: only wag pollinated with wag. You know what... I'll hand you seedlings if your seeds fail. BTW, I purchased small specimens on Vancouver Island. I also purchased a small martianus after seeing a nice one in Victoria. I'm assuming that my older wagnerianus palms will produce in the next year or two. Another nice palm is a fortunei-wagnerianus cross. One of the nicest palms in Victoria. Tell me if you want T. campestris (one seed), Ceroxylon (random various) or Jubaea seeds. I think that it costs nothing to send seeds other than Jub. Jub you can pay postage but seed is free. T. campestris is one of the most amazing palms I've seen. I know of 4 seedlings in Victoria. It is indeed rare.

People who visit prefer wagnerianus over fortunei. It also looks great when it's small. I remember when I looked for T. fortunei palms and now people just give them for free. My biggest free palm was a 15 gal fortunei. Times have changed.

The city of Vancouver needs to plant more palms by the water.

Of the 20 seeds only three germinated. They are small seedlings right now. I have two 5 gallon waggies that I plan on planting outside this spring, (1 month from now) 😀

I am planning on buying some waggie seeds from Jeff over in Victoria. I just keep forgetting to send off the money.
