Hi all,
Here you will see my garden in Steinau that is in the near from Frankfurt a.M Germany.
It's amazing for me to see how fast and big the palms grows in your gardens.
That's my Trachycarpus fortunei and Yucca rostrata,
My biggest Palm is a Phoenix canariensis
It was hard work to bed out this Palm . 😕
This Winter protection includes a little heater for my Phoenix c.
Winter protection Trachycarpus fortunei
here the protection of my hybrid of Trachycarpus fortunei x wagnerianus
Protected Butia capitata high ca. 2,20 meters
I hope that this winter will be not so hart than the last.
In March 2005 we had here -25 °Celsius and many of palms are frozen of death.
I hope that my English was not so bad.
Cheers,
Sascha

Thanks for posting those great pics. of your palms in Germany. That Phoenix is very nice! They do also grow palms down near Lake Konstance in southern Germany. The place is called Minau. Cheers, Joe
Growing palms and other exotic plants here in the Southern Gulf Islands.
Hi Joe,
yes I have also pictures from the Mainau,
we was there in holidays in the year 2003.
But now they have a bigger green house there, and the palms stays not longer
under the free sky in the summer.
I am very sad about that because the green house takes all the romantic from this island,
you can see the green house from far away.
We will visit some good friends on Thursday in Füssen and I will try to get some pics from the
green house.
Also I will make pics from the Cinderella Castle in Füssen.
Thanks for the compliment about my garden I have also
Musa basjoo
Musa sikkimensis
13 div. arts of cacti
a little Brahea armata
Chamaerops humilis
Chamaerops humilis var. cerifera
on Wednesday I become a Macrozamia morei with 50 cm trunk
Yucca gloriosa variegata
Yucca filamentosa
Eucalyptus gunnii
Trachycarpus wagnerianus
etc.
Have you visit the Mainau ?
Here some pics from the island Mainau
This photo is actual from August 2005

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Sascha, Your garden looks great, you've done an excellent job. The Winter protection looks very good too. I personally have never been to Mainau, but I have a friend that is German and he has many times. He is also a member of our Palm Society and he has written a couple of good articles for our Palm journal. I know there are Trachycapus fortunei growing out in the open, but the other exotics such as Phoenix get covered for the Winter. There are also large Citrus there as well. I once had a calender hanging on the wall in our garden shop that had a pic. of tall T.fortunei growing in Mainau. I worked with a guy once who was German and his relatives lived close to that region. He brought me back seeds from the T.fortunei growing in their garden. Another good palm growing Mecca is Southern Switzerland. Lugano and Locarno have been growing many species of palms outdoors for more than a century and half. Hi Joe,
Sorry for the late reply, but I am back from our vacation today.
I also knowing the Palms from Lugano but I will show you a couple of pics from Palms in Italy
my second homeland.
As first you will see a panopic from the frontier of Austria in view of the hills from North Italy
Simply wonderful this Chamaerops humilis 🙄
I have found it of a romantic little island called Sirmione ( Lake Garda ).
I tinker with the idea to be a member of the European Palm Society.
Once again .... but without this bothering tourist 😉 .
A beautiful group of Trachycarpus fortunei.
Also in Sirmione ( Lake Garda ).
Romantic pure...
Bougainvillea
As next you will see some pics the City of the Phoenix Palm Grottamare.
This picture shows that the last winter was a little bit to hard for the palms. 😥
But in the middle of the city ...... sheer lunacy!
I also tinker with the idea to be a member of the European Palm Society.
But as first I will wait and hope that my Palms are well after this winter.
Oh here the photos from my Macrozamia morei that I recvd. last week.
I will bed out this plant next spring.
Cheers,
Sascha

Sascha, Those are very nice pics. My relatives are from Reggio di Calabria in southern Italy. It is located not far from Sicily. Hopefully one of these days I will visit Europe. I always seem to go back to Hawaii every time I want to take a far off vacation. Merry Christmas, Joe
