Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

The coldest temp. I recorded here was -0.7 C. or 30.7 F. on Dec. 1. It wasn't even cold enough to really damage any of the more tender stuff like Gingers or Bananas. This morning the low was 2.1 C. Lots of Fushias in full bloom here. The long range forcast looks good. Stay warm. Joe

I decided to add a new sensor for my wireless thermo. I placed it in my coldest location, spent years trying to determine where that was. I have used nasturtiums as my indicator plant, I have planted them all over my garden in every location. Why? They are easy to grow and a die in slight frost. After doing this for a number of years I decided to put my sensors in three locations. One is wired and close to the house the other two are wireless so far from the house.

My lowest temps for three locations are:

27F
29F
33F

These were all on the same night and I don't have large lot. Aren't micro-climates wild things!
In case you think the sensors are off, well I thought the same thing, so I switched them around, except for the one near the house.

29F
33F
35F
So perhaps they are a bit off, but not that far either.
Some factors that probably contribute to such variances of temps.

The coldest location is in 100% shade, 100% of the time and is 50 feet from the house.
The warmest location gets afternoon sun, has lots of cover and is within 3 feet of the house.
The middle location has southern exposure, is within 3 feet of an UNheated garage and has a cement retaining wall.

That is very interesting 😀 it is amazing how diferent the temps can be just a few feet apart each other 😯 I know if I put my thermo higher up off the ground it will read warmer. Someone I work with can't understand why I always have a colder temp then him. I try to tell him that I put my thermo in the coldest place in my yard, but even though he lives 8 miles from my house, he can't understand why it almost always a couple of degs. colder then it is at his house 🙄

I definately know my remote sensors are accurate because I have three of them in my Stevenson Screen along with a glass min/max and one other regular glass thermometer. The three remotes read the same. I have other sensors in my garden at different locations. Joe

Most thermometers are very accurate. Even the not so good ones read with in a deg. or 2 of each other 🙂 The only ones I will not trust are the spring working ones 🙄

Here in North Toronto we dropped to a low of -15.2C/+4.64F 😯 on Dec 13 since then temps have moderated and will continue that way for the next two weeks. I can only hope it stays that way. 🙄

Thanks
Phil
