So I'm down in key west for my final night of my vacation. My wife and I found a couple coconuts and are going to see if they'll grow when we get back. One I'm pretty sure meets the requirements (it has the juice still in it). the other makes no sloshing sound and it's about half size. Will this thing do anything other than rot?

Odds are the same as a supermarket coconut. Not very good. We sold them (sprouted, growing ) not as a palm, but as a novelty. I wouldn't waste my time nor the pot of soil.

I have to say, being from Michigan, it's depressing to see how easy it is for the residents of the keys to grow palms and bananas.... coconut palms spout all over the place like weeds....

Like most plants' seed production, not all are viable/have been pollinated.

To have any chance at germination if the seed is mature, all fruit has to be removed.
It has worked with a warm/heated GH, lots of humidity and extra light to mimic longer daylight hours.
And getting the 2/3 "eyes" planted at the right level.

Agree...one consolation is we probably wouldn't like the year-round lawn mowing 😆
