Finally in the ground, after all these years. 😀
A lot of work without the tractor to help lift.

And...ta da...there is AN ELECTRICAL PLUG-IN 10 feet away for the pond light.
I'd forgotten that! :bounce:
So it's staying there...for good!

Looks good. No doubt, you will do a much better job protecting than me.
Did you grow that from seed? That looks great!

Forgot what you did with yours...sorry.
Got a link to it?
905...nope, it's been sitting in various containers for...OMG...gotta be 25 years now.
Was going into decline, smaller fronds (should be nice and long), and tips were always suffering.
Now it can finally spread out, fortunately CIDPs don't mind 50% of their roots being cut.
At least I hope so.
Or it'll be dead in a month. 😕

Super!
Mine making it unprotected in Manzanita should give you reason to be hopeful.
Looks awesome! I'm very jealous of your nice looking soil, by the way;)
Barb it looks great planted. Did you use any root booster after the chop?

I would have been far to scared to root prune somthing that nice..maybe tried to tease them loose or somthing..looks great planted hope it takes off right away
Manzanita 😆 😆 Do I wish...
Stony soil, but thanks!
John, nope, no root booster, nothin'. Just copious amounts of water.
The bloody thing weighed a ton (it seemed).
Knowing I would plant it, it hadn't been watered for ages.
maybe tried to tease them loose or somthing
Mike, there were so many dried and really stringy roots it would've been impossible.
Even with that little toothy saw, I was sweating buckets trying to cut through.
Here's a couple pics from 2007 when the same thing happened to the roots, albeit half simply snapped off when I was trying to lift it for repotting:
Sure hasn't grown in the 7 years it was in the "new" pot, that's why it was time to plant it yesterday.

I've seen internet pics of 20-foot CIDPs that were being transplanted.
The root size was sooooo small, probably 2x2x2 foot, wondered how on earth they would survive.
Apparently they can take severe root pruning.
Now that I've said that, mine will croak...
Thanks everybody!

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

I killed all my phoenix palms 🙁 My nice seed grown CIDP was left out in some bad frosts two seasons ago and died. My PDP was left out in the same time but somewhat recovered only to die this winter......
I do have some Dactys and now some fresh germinated P reclinata.... I think the growth rate on the reclinata should be way faster then CIDP... we will see!!

So sorry Jesse 😥
Remember a few winters ago when we all germinated Deglet Noors and Medjools?
Have no idea where I'm putting those either 😕
