Very nice palm. Yes it will turn turn blue with age. He does have a 5 gallon listed on his page for 60 $. But it doesnt look too big to me. More like a 1 gallon palm and for the money! Oh hell, its only money right. 😳

Phil had a super nice 5 gallon multi trunked he offered me but with shipping and all it was well over 100 bucks and I just wasn't up for it right now..maybe in the future. You really should get you one so we can see how they take this zone.

Yea, when I stopped in at Phil place in October I was thankful that I only had a rental car because I was a kid in a candy store....

I still picked out some smaller stuff to have him ship back...but the larger varieties of what I bought were sure tempting.

In May I have to go to San Diego again, this time I'll be driving and taking my truck!

I think Phil is just out of the question. Last order from him, the palm was 75$ the order cost 180$ with shipping and phyto cert. at least he threw in a free waggie.

Barb, I think I will be hardening off my plants earlier now on. Specially first yr palms.

I don't know what the "normal" weather is like in your area, Chad.
But here, it seems my palms are slow to start in spring.
By end of Summer they really start to take off 😕

Wow, that's $$$$$$$$.
Didn't know state-to-state (USA) orders needed phytos, thought that was only for cross international shipments.

Depends on your state, and N.C. requires them. However, its not something I have ever had to pay for from anyone else.

Nebraska doesn't require them, but one is sent anyway with each order.

Good deal if it's free.

I really like Trithrinax and the Mazari palm, unfortunately they do not like being covered in a moist cool environment....

I think a better substitute is the highly underrated Chamaerops Cerifera, even the small one I have has never had a true spear-pull....
always impressive to see a small palm still ticking while the heads of almost every other palm are within mulching distance.

I think it was about the same for this one Chad, palm was like 75 but 130 or so after shipping so I went with a smaller one. Might try a Mazari some time down the road. I have been looking for a nice blue and silver Cerifera but none found yet.

C. Cerifera are great palms and overwinter wonderfully. Mine yesterday.

Chad, wow, very nice.
Only an agave could downplay that blue.

Thanks Barb, I never imagined that agave growing to nearly 4' in only 3 years. Now I need to move it first thing this spring. I would expect it to be over 6' by next yr and pushing over the poor palm.

And that palm will get much wider too.

Great focal points!

The smaller trunks on the palm have not shown great hardiness, actually pulling last yr. Hopefully with size they grow out of it. As they do recover ever yr. would love to see that palm with atleast 6 trunks 5' tall 😀

The agave ovatifolia will go were I had my agave montana and CIDP planted. The montana is still alive, I just dug it up due to poor placement.

poor placement

We all do that.
Probably because we don't expect them to survive and get large. 😆
