Does anyone know how cold the Chinese fan palm will take? I bought one from Wal-mart a little while ago and I am curious.
Thanks

The leaves will fry in the lower 20's but the plant can come back after defoliation. I've heard of a few that are in Zone 5b with leaf mulch protection.

I'm going to try a few this year in the colder NW location of the house.

Ok, it's going down to 38-40 so that shouldn't hurt it?

It should be ok. If it was left in the store, it may turn a little yellow since its not used to temperature change, wind, sun...

These are a zone 9 palm. During our warmer winters they can survive outside with no protection but most winters it needs help.

Wes North Vancouver Zone 8b/9a
Keats Island BC Zone 8a
Palm Springs CA Zone 9b/10a
