I just transplanted a fairly large C. humilis at Grace Point today. It took three of us to do the job. My friend planted it 9 years ago as a small 1 gallon and now it is approx. 6'ft tall. WE moved it closer to the entrance of Grace Point in town where it has more room to grow. That was one very prickly palm. I have cuts on my arms and even on my ear from the razor sharp spines that are up each petiole. I'll get these pics. on a disk and send them to you Jay. You can feel free to post them here for others to see. It took us a couple of hours to move it. Cheers, Joe

Hi Joe,

Sounds good. Can't wait to post the pictures. 😀 Sounds like palm transplanting has become a regular job for you. 😀

Jay

Jay, I have been planting palms for 20 years now and by far the Vesuvius Pub Palm was the tallest I've been hired to transplant. The most I planted at a single location was 14 at the Sea Breeze Inn here on SSI approx. 5 years ago. They ranged from 15 gallon size to crated specimens I had to install with an excavator. They are lining the parking lot and have put on major growth since then. I'll have to take a pic. sometime. Cheers, Joe

Joe, That sound like a lot of fun. 😀 I love planting exotics but haven't tranplanted anything bigger than some yuccas and my trachy. Would love to see some pics.

Regards,
Jay

It was approx. 1990 or just before I transplanted a huge clump of mature Y.recurvifolia. There must have been a dozen trunked specimens in the group. They were growing in a front garden in White Rock and the new owners hated them. A friend and I drove down there with our truck and dug around the roots then we tied a rope around the trunks and started to pull them out with his trunk. I still have those Yuccas here at my place and they are awesome. I still have all those Chamaerops transplant pics. on my camera. I've been so busy lately with work, but I will get them on a disk and e-mail them to you. Plants 3 huge clumps of bamboo in my garden today. Three different species and one was a hard to find variegated Timber.. I also planted a nice 15 gallon Trachycarpus for my neighbor just down the road from me. It was a beautiful warm sunny day. I like Spring! Joe

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.
