I have found that the palm has 3 or 4 "pups" that have 2 to 4 small leaves and a thumb sized trunk.

I will be planting the palm within the week and am wondering about the value of keeping all of the trunks when I plant it. I want to keep the main trunk and the 4 6" side trunks. But will the "pups" slow the growth of the remaining trunks? Can I cut them from the main trunk/root ball and have them survive at their present size?

I hope that some of you experienced palm nuts can help me with this.

Thanks

Allen

You don't have to be crazy to grow palms in Alberta..... But it helps

"Can I cut them from the main trunk/root ball and have them survive at their present size?
" If by this you mean, separating them from the main trunk and growing them separately? Highly unlikely.

"will the "pups" slow the growth of the remaining trunks?" No.

Cheers, Barrie.

The only time I have had suckers survive when separated from the main plant, is when the suckers had some root growth coming from them as well...

Someone on the old IPS board years ago stated "1 in a 1,000 might take"
Cheers, Barrie.

P.S. For the record it's Barrie not Barry. Muchas gracias!
