This year I have so many things that are burnt (dead?) 🙁 And we had a mild winter for here. I think it is because it was so warm and then it droped below 0F in just a couple of days. I like a mild fall, but when it stays warm for to long it gets me nervous. I don't think my plants had long enough time to prep for winter.

Any one else have this problem?

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Yes. Some plants have been burnt in our area to because of a mild winter. I lost a hostas with tempratures only 8F because of non stop rain and it got so cold that they are all dead. dry cold would not have killed them. The needle palm survived though. My agaves are not doing that good because of rain and wet cold.

So far just one trachy is crispy burnt. 🙁 It's my fault because i didn't bother to protect it and i planted it in the fall. And it was only a one gallon size.

Aaron, i hope you didn't lose any of your y. brevifolias? 🙁

Regards,
Jay

Jay did you plant that Trachy in the fall as an experiment? Did it make it through our cold snap in Dec or was it done in by this latest cold blast?

I have not lost any big brevifolias, they only get stronger with age. No burn at all yet, even less burn then the filimentosas. brevifolias burn and sometimes die when young, but became very hardy with age 😀

John, It was kind of an experiment. I planted some of my plants late because i just bought my house at the end of summer. I should have protected it but i didn't think it had enough time to establish itself anyway. It was this last cold snap that did it in. 🙁 I do have another one gallon trachy i planted that is still green but looking rough.

Aaron, it's good to hear you didn't lose those yuccas. What got burnt?

Regards,
Jay

Now that it is warming up, the plants are coming to life and starting to show the burn. Today the snow melted enough that I could see every thing I had. There was alot of things I had for a long time that don't look like they are going to make it. It is very strange.
I have some cactus that look like toast, yet some of my palms look just fine? I will start a thread about 2005-2006 winter lost.
